Maria Luitgard Boehm, age 91, died peacefully on Wednesday, September 19, 2018, in the Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, NJ.
From her birth in Weiden i.d. Opf. Germany, on February 9, 1927 to her move to assisted care, she nourished people around her with love.
She was born in Weiden to Josef and Luitgard Hägler (Ruhland) and was the oldest of three daughters. In her youth she loved to write poetry. After World War II, Lu received sectorial training. On her 30th birthday, in 1957, she, along with her husband Helmut and their two sons, immigrated to America aboard the USMC General W.C. Langfit. Lu worked at a bakery for 10 years where she met her lifelong friend, Hildegard Gunther. After she and her husband opened up a foreign car repair in Cranford, Lu became the bookkeeper and raised their 3 children in Warren NJ. In her later years, she loved to sing and became a member of the Schwäbischer Sängerbund of Clark, NJ. for 35 years.
Left to honor Lu and remember her love are Lu's three children and spouses, Klaus and Kathleen Boehm, Wolfgang Boehm and his wife Janice Paterson and Ramona and Robert McColgan; three grandchildren: Allison, Brenna and Katie; two great-grandchildren: Gracie and Emmett; a sister, Annemarie Hanauer, residing in Germany; and many nieces and nephews. Lu was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Her other sister, Margeret Leipold died 3 days after Lu's death.
A Celebration of Lu's Life will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 1:00 pm to 5:00 PM, at the Deutscher Club of Clark, NJ. 787 Featherbed Ln, Clark, NJ where she enjoyed practicing in the choir. All Lu's family and friends are invited to join in the celebration and to share stories of her life.
